After living
and working abroad for 9 years, Teresa’s work is heavily influenced by
the Impressionists as a starting point yet her paintings do have aspects
of realism. Her style would be considered as
contemporary impressionistic/expressionistic. The bright New Zealand
light is also represented within the subject matter of many of her
colourful paintings.
As a self
taught artist, Teresa has developed her own unique style. She
has always been able to draw and until recently has found demand for her
work is gaining momentum. Her work has predominately been in acrylic
on boxed canvas but recent commissions have seen her working more with oils. Teresa currently works as a primary relief
teacher but on the days not teaching you will find her at her easel.
Since 2005
Teresa has sold many of her works and has had solo exhibitions at local cafés. Teresa has recently exhibited art at the Figtree Cafe in Upper Hutt. She has also been invited to
put works of art into the local Pinehaven Art and Craft Exhibition.
Teresa had her first international sale for a commissioned piece
with a large acrylic landscape now in America followed soon after with another in Australia. Recent
commissions are now from interested clients nationally and internationally.
A larger project has seen Teresa undertaking a large wall mural at Upper Hutt Primary School. This involved working with 27 children in the Art Extension Programme. Another local school, Oxford Crescent School, invited Teresa to be their 'Artist in Residence' . A voluntary project involved taking on the role of 'Art Advisor' and tutor for
a fundraising art auction in June 2008 which raised $11,000 in one exciting evening. More recently (2011), Teresa completed a large three panel Wall Mural for St Joesph's School (UH) centenary, her biggest public work to date.
Teresa tutors her own Painting and Drawing Course for adults and children and commissions works in
the studio/gallery at home in Riverstone Terraces. Teresa has also tutored children from Upper Hutt in the Gifted and Talented Programme (Art) in her studio which ended with a wonderful exhibition at Expressions Art Gallery in Upper Hutt.
As a mother,
wife and teacher, Teresa finds painting very relaxing and creative at
the same time. Teresa is interested in accepting commissions for
most things provided she feels inspired and emotionally connected.
A commissioned work is a journey for both herself and her client with
each new work being met with incredible energy and enthusiasm. |
